Could vs Can vs Would

So, "could," "can," and "would" can be pretty confusing in English. I can start by saying that all three words or "modal verbs" (this simply means that they express possibility and how necessary it is.)

📖 Can:

★ "Can" is used to describe your ability, for example: "I 'can' write two English tips in one night."
★ "Can" is used to ask for permission, for example: "'Can' I have some cake now?"
★ "Can" is used to suggest that something MIGHT happen in the future, for example: "If you finish reading this tip, you 'can' ask me if you still don't understand."
★ And "Can" is used to say whether something is possible or not, for example: "Do you think I can write a third English tip?"

📖 Could:

★Like "Can", "Could" is used for possibility as well. But it has a different feel to it, for example:
• Can: "I can stay up all night."
• Could: "I could stay up all night."

★ When you use "can" you are showing your ability. You can definitely stay up all night. But when you use "could" you are showing possibility.
★ You MIGHT be able to stay up all night. Does that make sense?
• Can is more definite,
• Could is more of a "maybe."

📖 Would:

★ "Would" is easier to understand because it is not related to "Can" or "Could."

★ You use "would" when you are talking about something that hasn't happened yet, but you think is likely to happen, for example:

 1.  "I would quit my job if I won the lottery."
 2.  "I would like to come over later."

★ "Would" is also used to ask polite questions, for example: "Would you please....?"

★ Lastly, "would" can express your willingness to want to do something on the future, for example: "Yes, I would love to write more English tips in the future!!"
